Why I Used Temporary Car Insurance for A Car Purchase

When it came time for me to purchase a new automobile, I first did extensive research into various makes and models of vehicles I was interested in. Once I had narrowed my choices down I decided it was time to take a few of my choices out for test drives to see how they handled the road. I wanted to dedicate a day for each vehicle, to ensure that I was making the right choice. The one thing I did need to do was ensure that the vehicles I was testing out were covered by insurance.

It is a criminal offense to drive without at least a minimum of third party insurance in the UK. I discovered that there are companies that deal in temporary auto insurance and that I could take a one day policy out to cover the vehicle I was test driving out. The rates were very reasonable for comprehensive insurance that would cover the cost of a new vehicle in the event of total loss.

I drove several vehicles around under this type of insurance without incident and decided to test drive one more vehicles. I drove the vehicle around town in the morning and parked it at a garage to run some errands. When I came back the test vehicle was not where I left it and I had to file a report with the police. Luckily, the garage had security cameras and they were able to get footage of the people that took the vehicle to assist police.

The vehicle was discovered in an empty lot with extensive fire damage. The people who stole the vehicle were juveniles looking for a joy ride that turned into a huge case of vandalism as well. Luckily the type of cover I purchased for the vehicle covered the total loss and I was not out a lot of money. The perpetrators of the crime were caught and will be punished for their crimes thanks to the security tapes in the garage as evidence.

I resumed test driving more vehicles and when it came to making a decision on a vehicle, I was a very happy person. I was satisfied in knowing I had done all the research necessary and verified that the car I wanted could handle the road in a variety of conditions. On the day of the purchase, I also used temporary car insurance in order to be able to drive the car off the lot that day.

Another reason I decided to go with temporary car insurance on the day I drove the vehicle off the lot was because I wanted time to shop around for permanent car insurance. By insuring my new vehicle for 28 days on a temporary policy, I was able to take the time to really find the best rates available for the cover I wanted while knowing I was within the legal requirements for driving in the UK. This afforded me a great deal of peace of mind.
